I forgot to mention:
The new modest mouse song is fine. And we were all worried!
The new good charlotte song, or, "How many words rhyme with river", on the other hand, is completely awful. And we knew it.

I'm gonna start school next week. The building is literally on the waterfront, which means one long ass train ride. Well, bus and train ride. Either way, I have a few concerns about this:
-I have maybe 45 songs on my mp3 player that I can still listen to and enjoy without wanting to gouge my eyeballs out with a rusty spoon. I have the terrible curse of autism when it comes to music, I'll listen and listen and listen to it until it becomes apparent that if i ever even hear so much as thirty seconds of it I run the risk of spontaneous combustion. There's no cure for this, but you can be charitable and send me songs or suggestions for songs
-I have a terrible habit of falling asleep on the train. But to be honest, they've cranked the heaters, there are gun toting cops to protect me from evils and the lighting is not like, neon or harsh in any way. It is more comforatable than my bedroom.
I have a choice of two time schedules:
I can go Monday and Tuesdays, 9am-5:45 pm and then Wednesday 9am-1pm, OR
Wednesdays 1:45-5:45, and Thursdays and Fridays 9am-5:45pm.
I like sleeping in, so perhaps the latter would be nice, with the late day on Wednesday, but when it comes to juggling a PT job and school, I'd rather do school early in the week than work...hum...
Now some of you might be saying, 'But Shani, you don't have a part time job"
Well you hush.
I'm getting there.
I registered for school. And thanks to November being a kickass month and having a payday both on the 18th (for school and loan repayment) and on the 1st of December( for rent) money won't be an issue. So yeah, I'm going to John Casablancas. I'm pretty excited about that...
and on Dec. 5 the OC releases its all covers mix cd..which is truly awesome. Debaser covers by Rogue Wave ftw. srsly.
I saw Running with Scissors with Santino and while the movie was great (Annette Bening <3333), the soundtrack was better. I never thought I'd be the Crosby, Stills, and Nash type but 'Teach Your Children' is wicked cool.
Work kinda sucked this week but I found out one of my Co Workers plays World of Warcraft so he rolled a char on my server and we played together a bit...but then I had to go level my fishing skill to make mad gold on the auction house. Don't hait.
In little over two weeks, I'll be 21...I've worked a series of low-paying, end-of-the-spectrum jobs wherein management treated anyone below them like poop, I'm half way to an Early Childhood Education diploma, and a quarter of the way to a Child and Youth Counseling diploma, yet I've gone nowhere, and really achieved nothing, and still managed to rack up 10 grand in school loan debt to the government. What a disturbing thought. Though I suppose it wouldn't be entirely true...I moved out of my parent's house. But yeah that's really it.
On the 19th, Craig and I will have been dating a year, and I have absolutely nothing negative to report about that. <3 We are going to start saving for a trip to be taken sometime after Christmas but were not sure where yet (who knows how far we could actually get on our budget)
aaand I need ideas for what to dress up as for Halloween should I be at work for that night.
Also 27th, party, my house. Sooo, if you wanna go take the night off of work etc etc. That's all we know so far.
And one last thing, Craig bought me a WoW alliance crest tee shirt, so to all my friends: Yes, I will be wearing it in your company and embarrassing you all horribly. Too bad! :P
Later kids.
Hi!
I got a job at Bootlegger, but the excitement doesn't end** there, I may have a better job in the works at Western Safety, which is better for two reasons, 12 an hour kicks the crap out of 8 an hour, and 40 hrs is most certainly preferred to 'wherever I can be slotted in'.
I got paid for Edmonton today too finally, and everyone was saying I might never see the money. Well now I'm glad I believed in her. Turns out she buggered her phone, contacts were on it, and had to take it in for service.
I'll be doing a bit of work for the nail jazz this weekend, looking forward to that. Money in my pocket.
I was actually at the PNE yesterday with my Dad, we watched the Talent show for the 13-18 yr old division. Pretty good, on the judges panel? THE GUY FROM SOUL DECISION. Clearly we cannot trust any selections made. But it was fun. Especially when the tall blonde from Abbotsford got up on stage and sung her rendition of 'Jesus Take the Wheel'. I'd never heard the song before but it was basically some chick getting into a car accident with her child in the backseat and telling Jesus to take the wheel. Figuratively, I understand. Although, with the insertion of but one comma, it becomes, "Jesus, would you TAKE the WHEEL?!?" and then it looks like she may be telling the child to drive.
But it was pretty convincing, like Jesus was about to randomly appear in her backseat and steer the endangered family to safety! Who sings that at the PNE though? Religious material? Yeah, she never made it, guys. Most of the other songs were good choices, but it seemed every second contestant would trot out on-stage and sing some depressing song about a girl who was never loved. Awww!
But never mind that, look at this! This is Chad Van Gaalen's new video and he is from Calgary. He made all the music and all the drawings himself and that's pretty swell.
...I want a rat car :(
** The excitement never really began.
Joy.
Let's see...there was Bootlegger yesterday, where the first thing that happened was the manager walked out of the back room and looked at me, obviously surpised. "Did I call you?!?" Yes, Yes she did. So then she had to go back into the other room and make me a name tag as she had pre made everyone else's. That made me feel real good. I was also the oldest person there, everyone else was still 16 and over half of them wore blonde tips in their over-gelled hair. Gross.
Today there was HMV. I did really well on their little 'pop culture test', 12/16. Which is apparently 'really well' compared to a lot of people, or so the manager said. So here's where I got marks off for incorrectly answering: "What would you suggest to a customer buying her 10 year old son the movie, 'Blade'?'. I answered a) Ask which of the three movies in the trilogy she would like, or if she wants the entire box set. The correct answer? Tell the mother she should not be buying R movies for her 10 year old boy. Holy awkward. Next up, everyone's favorite, the "trick" question, "What would you suggest for someone trying to make the ultimate 'rock' collection"? a) Bruce Springsteen, b)Dire Straits, c) James Brown and then d) was someone who definitely didn't fit the category. It's not Brown, so that puts it between Springsteen and Straits, I chose Straits...hello Sultans of Swing...anyways no, the answer is Springsteen, which is not the disturbing part...the disturbing part comes when the manager informs me that 'Yeah it's a trick question because Springsteen is one of our Owner's favorites and a close friend of his'. Wtf? Cos I'm gonna know that. So basically anyone who doesn't know who the Dire Straits are going to get this question correct. One of the other ones I got wrong? Name the country artist OR BAND, And yes, I've emphasized that for a reason, from this list:
a)Tim McGraw
b)The Traveling Wilburies
and then two other bands I don't even remember as I was only concerned with the first two. Here's my beef, no, I didn't say McGraw, and I should have. But country means something else to me, I like the folkier genre, and so the Wilburies would have been my first choice. I didnt see it as a 'right and wrong answer' kind of deal because why would they even be in the choices? But yeah. W/e. McGraw's a wanker anyways.
It also took me FOREVER to list a CD that is topping the charts at the moment. I finally blurted out Panic at the Disco, but I should have gone with Gnarls. Oh well. Can you tell I want the job? I'm so concerned over ridiculous details. I have another interview though, so I must have done well.
And oh yeah we got the super convenient apartment two blocks from the mall with the tennis court and pool/sauna/workout room we wanted. Go us!
Oh Em Gee Santino, Hi2u. ^^
Aaaaaanyway.
"I have always been obsessed with this whole apocalypse thing...A friend once remarked that there is a legitimate debate among religious scholars that the Book of Revelation was written while the Apostle John was under the influence of hallucinatory mushrooms.."
-Richard Kelly, Taken from the inside cover of "Southland Tales: Two Roads Diverge"
You know, I totally believe it. Do some 'shrooms and everyone thinks they're a fuckin' author.
So I'm back, and I have this to say: It was nice driving into Edmonton, but it was beautiful driving the fuck out. Which is not to say it was a horrible experience in its entirety...there were good times, bad times, and things stolen from our hotel rooms as we worked eleven hour days. And that's all I'll say about that. I've been practicing a little something called 'Self-Constraint' these days.
So yeah. It's almost August already. I hate August because I get this weird feeling that I should be readying myself for some kind of schooling. If I don't take any classes during the month of September I just get the heavy-set feeling of directionlessness. Made up word? Perhaps.
I really like the video for Cheating Hearts. Nine year olds impersonating Karen O are kickass.
So I'm gonna go..and do...stuff.
I stumbled across the coolest thing this morning, a few years ago when Lisa and I were still little pop-music loving lemmings we went and saw Maroon 5, and a band opened for them called Big City Rock, which we had decided we loved based on the fact that the music was fun and a keytar was most certainly involved. Well today I found their myspace page from a series of other myspace pages of bands I had not heard of. I still like them haha. I was wondering where they had gone. It's funny considering all the love myspace bands get but some slip underneath the radar. Heh.
Anyways, I'm off to Edmonton for a week to sell nail polish, as I'm sure many ppl know already. Let me tell you about selling people things though. This world we live in? Yeah, 95% asshats. I swear. For the better part of the Stampede I worked at another booth but near the end I tried the 'Nail Jazz' booth to see if I would like it before I went to Edmonton. So I'm pitching to this one couple and their small daughter...and they are making a big fuss about switching colors in the set for colors in the other set that is sold separately. I say no. They say ask the manager. I tell them the manager will say no as well. They say ask anyway. So i ask and the managing lady doesn't even turn around to see them and just shouts 'absolutely not'. Ha...so then they are like well we just want the white and black. So i show them the french tip set that comes with white, black, a sheen, and a file or something. They are like 'no we want the colors too'. @___@ Ah! I start bending down to reach under the counter and get a colored set for them and the husband or whatever is all, "Oh we don't want this set" gesturing towards the one I was using for demos...well no shit. "We want new one!!" Haha. Gawwwd. Then I gave them wrong change and had to give the till 75 cents to make up the difference at the end of the night. Calculators are my friend.
I bought The Avalanche yesterday and Death Cab's Directions dvd. Craig and I are taking his PS2 to Edmonton with us and were going to hook it up at the hotel and watch iiiiit. yay.
I got a new phone! I feel bad replacing my pink phone but this one is green whee!
okay gotta go pack.
Did you know that BC's medical system is actually much better than the one in place here in Alberta? Well, now you do. I had to take Craig to the hospital last night for one of his Migraines...he was cold to the touch but sweating all over and shaking and could barely put together a sentence when he wasnt puking his guts out. So off in the ambulance we went to Foothills. We waited for about three hours with no one even coming out to let us know what was going on, and then just cabbed home. It was comforting being in the hospital for the worst of his migraine but there were only 8 or so people in the emergency room and no one fucking moved for 3 hours. I've been in the emergency rooms in BC where you can barely find a seat and they still keep it moving. There were another four or so peoplein the hallway that had clearly been heavily sedated for their wait, none of them were taken either in the three hours.
When you've cleaned out your significant other's puke bucket are you headed for marriage?:S
None of it fazed me at all, I just massaged his temple until he fell asleep in my lap at the hospital. We had to leave work early so that's a slight decrease in hours but also a slight decrease in my recent diet of deli manjoo and one-dollar-Weadickville hotdogs. The former was a gift from the gods...ever had those little things?! theyre like little vanilla cakes with creme filling inside. Gawwwwd.
Anyway, yeah were moving back to BC where you may indeed wait three hours in the waiting room at a hospital, but you are seen. And to where were not going to get stuck with a 300 dollar ambulance bill because we couldnt get to the hospital --we originally phoned a 24 hr nurse line thinger or whatever for advice...but she was concerned about the shaking and non-communication stuff so she sent for an ambulance. I had to borrow the upstairs ppl's phone too, so that's another thing...I'm buying a freaking phone as soon as the Stampede is over. If that bill comes though, We are just moving away from it. They'll never find us mwahaha! I think in BC it's something like 50 dollars for ambulance support. Hah. And this province is supposed to have money coming out its ass. I wonder why. The ambulance guys were however, very nice and wrote a note saying not to bill us, but were skeptical that it would work. We'll see.
Im off to work another looong day. Adios amigos
